Stop smoking
Supposing you were asked 'what keeps you smoking?' what would you say?Think about it .... Then ask yourself
'Can I sustain this? Will I still be smoking in 10, 20, even 30 years?' and what will my life be like then?
So, you are thinking about giving up smoking with hypnotherapy?
A good thought, you have come to the right place
- Half of all people who smoke will be killed by their habit. One in four will die of lung cancer
- Every year about 114,000 smokers in the UK die from smoking related causes, 312 per day
- Smokers under 40 have a five times greater risk of dying from a heart attack than non-smokers
- Having between 1 and 14 cigarettes a day increases your risk of getting lung cancer by eight times
- Smoking causes 90% of all cases of lung cancer. Cigarettes can also cause cancer of the larynx, throat, oesophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas
- 1,000 people are admitted to hospital every day in the UK with an illness caused by smoking
- Smoking costs the taxpayer £ each day
- Smoking costs you more than £ 2,000 per year every year you smoke - with inflation it could be £100,000 in 40 years
- 20 minutes: Your blood pressure and pulse rate return to normal
- 8 hours: Carbon monoxide and nicotine are eliminated from the body
- 48 hours: Risk of lung cancer stops increasing and begins to decrease
- 2 to 21 weeks: Circulation improves
- 3 to 9 months: Coughing and wheezing decline. Lung function increases by up to 10%
- 1 year: Risk of a heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker
- 15 years: Risk of a heart attack is the same as someone who has never smoked.

| I only smoke a couple a day so I'll be right
If you smoke fewer than 5 per day you might feel as though your chances of getting a smoking related illness are low. Unfortunately the evidence show this isn't the case. Two years ago, a Norwegian study of 43,000 people found that people who have between 1 nd 4 cigarettes a day were still 3 times more likely to die of heart disease than non-smokers. A Danish report in 2002 found that just 3 cigarettes a day doubles the risk of dying early.

| I'll stop by the time I'm 30, before any serious damage is done
It is often said that if you quit before you are 30 you'll avoid 90% of the risk from smoking. But that doesn't mean you should carry on until then. The longer you smoke the harder you are likely to be able to stop. Even if you're convinced you'll stop on your 30th birthday, why wait? There are loads of short term benefits to quitting that you'll see fairly qquickly. You'll have more energy, look better and feel healthier. And if you smoke 20 a day it will cost your £2,000 for every year you keep on smoking.
While 90% sounds alot, 10% isn't the same as zero. If you stop when you're 30 and find yourself with a smoking related illness in later life, how happy will you be that you chose to make that bargain?

| I only smoke low-tar cigarettes and they're not as bad for you
There's no such thing as 'light tobacco'. the difference is in the filters. Light cigarettes have ventilation holes, so when tested by machines they record lower levels of tar and nicotine. the problem is that when people smoke lights, they do things to compensate - such as breathing more deeply or taking more puffs - so they end up being exposed to just as much harmful stuff. In fact, because the smoke is taken deeper into the lungs, lights increase the risk of a cancer called adenocarcinoma, which attacks the deepest regions of the organ.

| I roll my own
Well, after reading the above and realising you are smoking without any filters whatsoever, how do you feel?

Karen, (name changed for confidentiality reasons) was a typical smoker. She started before she was fifteen, just one or two, and then a few more. By 33 her average day started with a smoke as soon as she got out of bed, another one or three before work, another at morning tea, and three at lunchtime, so it continued. By bedtime she had finished the packet. If she went out it became lots more.
She knew it had a hold over her and was reminded of this by her inability to stop on her own, having tried willpower and patches and gum. She was always trying to conceal the smell of smoke she knew surrounded her. She knew her teeth were yellow, her skin was sallow and her hair was lank. She knew that for over half her life she had been smoking, and it wasn't good for her.
She knew however that once a long time ago she had stopped for 6 months and she had felt so energised and clear headed. So different. But it had been hard on the patches and she had relapsed when someone had offered her one cigarette. Just that one simple cigarette had led to the whole habit back again.
Karen's catalyst came last year. She wanted to start a family. After years of trying it wasn't happening. She went to see about IVF and was advised to give up. Her need for children far outweighed her need for smokes.
She came to see me. She hadn't had hypnotherapy before but that day she stopped smoking.
Within 24 hours the nicotine and carbon monoxide were gone from her body and her circulation had improved. She found she could taste and smell things much better that next week and within a month she could see and feel the difference in her skin and hair as well as her general well being. She was feeling really good by now for she realised it was working. After 3 months she was already feeling the benefits within her body as it returned to working normally, breathing, focus, relaxation, hormones, energy, sex life, the lot.
So much can now happen in her life! She is much more in control of it. She knows how simple the hypnotherapy process is. She knows it is effective and she knows I care and am there if at any time she needs me, like to help her preparing for the birth of her child.
For smoking I use a tailored approach. One or two sessions of hypnotherapy with full back up support for two months. We both want it to be successful and I use positive techniques to help achieve this. Everyone is different, finding what suits you may work in one session, or may require a second. It is all included in the price.
Should you be unsure I would suggest you wait until you are completely sure. If you want some confidence to help, a prior session devoted totally to goal setting, motivation and confidence will make a huge difference. It would need to be 3 days to a week prior to the stop smoking session and it would be included in the price.
A point to note: I assist you to do this yourself with your own mind power. You need to look on me as a personal trainer or coach. Sometimes a technique may need tweaking or changing so I would expect you to notify me of this and come back for the tweak. You need to take full responsibility for this yourself. This will work but it will require a positive mindset. Hypnotherapy helps you achieve this.
1. Hypnotherapy starts with a phone call and your immediate questions answered.
2. A time is booked, it will take an hour and a half.
3. A questionaire may be sent to you to complete and return. This identifies your details and smoking patterns and allows me to prepare properly.
4. You are asked to stay off all tomato products for a week prior to your appointment, and at least a week afterwards. They are related in species to tobacco.
5. This is a time to start cleaning up your house, putting away ashtrays, finding any cigarettes and giving them away, or dumping them. You need to show you are committed. You need to start thinking of the future without cigarettes and all the benefits. 1. Some discussion is centered around your questionaire so I can fine tune my preparations.
2. We focus on the benefits to you of quitting and look forward to what you will be dong with the spare time, extra money and energy. Some good goals are then put in place for you to look forward to achieving.
3. Time to find out more about hypnotherapy, how it works and ask questions.
4. You then experience the relaxation hypnotherapy brings while I chat away to you about being a non smoker. You can listen, or just tune out. Your unconscious mind will do most of the listening, storing and remembering. It's a pleasant experience and, since you want to become a non smoker, you may as well just lay back and enjoy the relaxation while it happens naturally.
6. When done you stretch, have a drink of water, and start the process of feeling good being a non smoker.
7. Any cigarettes you have are given up, along with your lighter, for you no longer need them.
1. Feel good, you are achieving one of the biggest goals of your life. One that will benefit you forever. You should feel very proud and are to be congratulated.
2. Clean out the house, let the fresh air blow through it.
3. Take in good deep breaths. Each breath of lovely fresh air is replacing each breath of stale tobacco filled air you used to take, and your body will be loving it subconsciously. Start to clean your lungs out. It doesnt matter if you cough alot, this is a good sign. Breathe deeply and often.
4. Drink lots of water, often, to flush the toxins out.
5. Eat lots of foods high in vitamin C i- fruit, oranges and orange juice. Take extra vitamin C tablets. This helps to boost the immune system which is busy dealing with the changes happening to your body. You need to look after your immune system well.
6. Congratulate yourself each day and night. Do it often and note any good changes that happen. like your taste returning, the smell around you gone, your skin softening up, comments from other people. You know you are doing the right thing now is the time to prove that you can sustain it. 1. After a week you know you are there. The addiction has gone and your body is feeling so much better. You will be clearer in your mind, too. You can be truely proud of yourself.
8. Keep drinking the water, that is a good habit to have all your life and helps soften and rehydrate your skin, and your hair, as well as flushing out toxins and keeping your metabolism working.
9. Keep up the Vitamin C for a month at least, if going into winter continue any tablets through to summer.
8. After 3 weeks you have set a habit, the habit of being a non smoker. Congratulations job well done!. Know that you will be a better and healthier person for it. Notice the money you seem to have more of, your attitude and your feeling of well being enhancing your relationships. It's a good feeling.
